Heating coils & preheaters

24 items

Heater batteries for ventilation systems: electric and hot water heater batteries for circular and rectangular ducts, pre-heaters for frost protection, re-heaters for the supply air as well as supply air units with built-in battery, controls and accessories from S&P, Blauberg, Nilan and InoxAir.

Pre-heater or re-heater?

A pre-heater sits in the outdoor air duct upstream of the ventilation unit. It warms the outdoor air enough to prevent the heat exchanger from icing in frost, for example the Nilan electric pre-heater or the Blauberg EVH pre-heater. For controlling an electric pre-heater with S&P units there is the S&P VHZS accessory set. A re-heater sits in the supply air duct downstream of the unit and raises the supply air temperature, such as the Nilan electric re-heater, the Nilan water re-heater or the Blauberg ENH re-heater. The guide heater batteries in ventilation explains the background.

Electric or hot water heater battery?

Electric heater batteries only need a power supply and are easy to control, for example the S&P MBE for circular ducts, the S&P IBE T for rectangular ducts or the InoxAir electric heater battery with control accessories. Hot water heater batteries are connected to the heating system, such as the S&P MBW for circular ducts, the S&P IBW for rectangular ducts or the InoxAir water heater battery with bag filter. For controlling S&P hot water batteries there is the PWW-S pump hot water control.

Supply air units with built-in battery

For halls, commercial buildings and workshops there are supply air units with filter, fan and battery in one casing, for example S&P CAIT PRO-REG with electric heater, CAIT PRO-REG with hot water heater, S&P CAIB PRO-REG and the plug-in InoxAir ZLH 2000 supply air unit.

Installation notes

  • S&P recommends mounting heater batteries on the pressure side of the fan.
  • Electric heater batteries need a minimum air flow; for the S&P IBE T the manufacturer states, for example, an air velocity of at least 2 m/s.
  • Hot water batteries need frost protection, for example via a TG-A1/PT1000 contact sensor.
  • The output depends on air flow and the desired temperature rise; the data for each type are given on the product page.

Frequently asked questions about heater batteries

Do I need a pre-heater for my ventilation system?

In units with a counterflow heat exchanger, the exchanger can ice up in frost. A pre-heater prevents this. Whether it is needed depends on the unit and the location; some units already have a built-in pre-heater, such as the Nilan Polar versions.

Which is better: electric or hot water?

Electric heater batteries are easy to connect and control. Hot water heater batteries use the existing heating and suit higher outputs, but need hydraulics, controls and frost protection.

Where is the heater battery installed?

A pre-heater in the outdoor air duct upstream of the ventilation unit, a re-heater in the supply air duct downstream. S&P recommends mounting on the pressure side of the fan.
