Heat Pumps

8 items

Nilan heat pumps for ventilation, heating and hot water: compact units combining residential ventilation with heat recovery and a heat pump in one appliance, ventilation units with heat pump for heating and cooling the supply air, an exhaust air water heater and the AIR9 air-to-water heat pump. All units come from the Danish manufacturer Nilan A/S.

Which Nilan heat pump fits? Selection by task

Ventilation, heating, cooling and hot water in one unit

Compact units for single and multi-family houses: according to Nilan, the Nilan Compact S is designed for ventilation demand up to 340 m³/h and has a 180 litre hot water tank. The Nilan Compact P2 is designed for up to 425 m³/h and is available with integrated GEO 3, GEO 6 or GEO 9 ground source heat pump or with the indoor part of the AIR9 air-to-water heat pump. Both recover the heat of the extract air via a counterflow heat exchanger and use the remaining energy via the heat pump.

Ventilation with heat pump for heating and cooling the supply air

The Nilan Combi Polar units combine a counterflow heat exchanger with a reversible heat pump that heats the supply air in winter and cools it in summer. In the Nilan VPL15 and VPL28, the heat pump handles heat recovery completely (active heat recovery). For classrooms, offices and meeting rooms there is the Nilan HCR 800 T with rotary heat exchanger and heat pump for up to 800 m³/h.

Hot water and space heating

The Nilan VGU250 M2 is an exhaust air water heater that uses the energy of the extract air from kitchen, bathroom and utility room for hot water in its 180 litre tank. For radiators or underfloor heating and hot water there is the indoor unit Nilan DHW Air9 with 180 litre hot water tank and 50 litre buffer tank, operated with the Nilan Air9 outdoor unit. According to Nilan, DHW AIR is intended for new builds and renovations, for example to replace an oil or gas boiler.

What to consider when planning

  • Ventilation demand and heat load: compact units with exhaust air heat pump are designed for well insulated buildings with low heat load. Sizing is done by the planner or heating installer.
  • Flow temperature: the lower the required flow temperature, the more economically a heat pump works. Tips in the guide lowering the flow temperature.
  • Existing buildings: the guide heat pumps in older buildings explains what is possible.
  • Funding: current programmes are described in the guide heat pump funding 2026. Applications are usually made before placing the order.
  • Accessories and filters: replacement filters, controls and accessories are listed in the Nilan collection.

Frequently asked questions about heat pumps

What is the difference between an exhaust air heat pump and an air-to-water heat pump?

An exhaust air heat pump as in the Compact S, Compact P2 or Combi Polar uses the energy of the extract air from the residential ventilation and transfers the heat to the supply air and hot water. An air-to-water heat pump such as the AIR9 extracts heat from the outdoor air and supplies radiators or underfloor heating and hot water.

Do I need an additional heating system?

That depends on the heat load of the building. In very well insulated houses a compact unit can take over heating; in other buildings an additional heat source is planned, for example the Compact P2 with GEO ground source heat pump or the AIR9 indoor part. Sizing should be done by a planner.

Can Nilan units also cool?

Yes, units with a reversible heat pump such as Compact S, Combi Polar, VPL15, VPL28 and HCR 800 T can also cool the supply air according to Nilan. This does not replace air conditioning but lowers the supply air temperature compared with the outdoor air.

How are the units controlled?

Most Nilan units are operated via the CTS602 controller with HMI touch panel. With the Nilan Gateway LAN they can be controlled via the Nilan User App.
