Decentralised ventilation with heat recovery
11 itemsDecentralised ventilation units supply individual rooms or groups of rooms with outdoor air without the need to install a duct network throughout the building. A heat exchanger transfers part of the heat in the extract air to the incoming air. In this category you will find the Blauberg VENTO, Freshpoint and Freshbox ranges for living spaces, Blauberg CIVIC EC ceiling and floor-standing units, and the S&P PURECLASS for larger rooms.
Reversing operation or counterflow
Units such as the VENTO inHome work in reversing (push-pull) mode: the fan changes its airflow direction at regular intervals, and a ceramic heat exchanger stores heat from the extract air and releases it to the supply air. The wall units are installed in a core hole through the external wall. CIVIC EC and PURECLASS, by contrast, move supply and extract air simultaneously through a counterflow heat exchanger and have an integrated bypass. Our article heat recovery explained describes both principles.
What to look for when choosing
- Duct diameter: VENTO inHome and VENTO Eco2 for DN160, Freshpoint for 160 or 200 mm
- Enthalpy heat exchanger, which transfers moisture as well as heat
- Pre or post heater, for example on Freshbox and CIVIC EC
- Control via Wi-Fi or app, replacement filters and accessories
For the VENTO inHome and VENTO Eco, a completion set containing the unit itself is available alongside the complete set. Whether a decentralised system or a central ventilation unit suits your building is covered in our comparison central vs. decentralised ventilation.
Frequently asked questions about decentralised ventilation
Is decentralised ventilation suitable for retrofitting?
Yes, wall units only need a core hole and a power supply, which is why they are often used in existing buildings. Our guide retrofitting decentralised ventilation explains the steps.
What does an enthalpy heat exchanger do?
It transfers part of the moisture in the extract air to the supply air as well as heat. In winter this can help prevent overly dry indoor air.
How many units are needed?
That depends on the floor plan and the required airflow. Reversing units are usually operated in pairs so that one supplies air while the other extracts it. A ventilation concept is recommended for reliable sizing.
