Fire Protection Housings and Fire Protection Devices
2 itemsFire protection housings and fire protection devices for single-pipe fans to DIN 18017-3 in bathrooms, toilets and kitchens. The range includes the flush-mounted housings of the S&P ERL series with fire protection boards as well as fire protection flush-mounted housings and fire protection devices for Blauberg Valeo2.
Why fire protection for single-room fans?
If a ventilation duct passes through walls or ceilings with fire resistance requirements, fire and smoke must not spread through the duct to other floors or flats. In extract systems to DIN 18017-3 this is done by a fire protection housing and a fire protection device that closes the duct in the event of fire. The guide fire dampers in ventilation systems explains the basics of dampers in larger systems.
S&P ERL flush-mounted housings with fire protection
According to S&P, the S&P ERL flush-mounted housings ERL U, UL, UR and the kitchen versions U/BU, UL/BU and UR/BU are made of 15 mm A1 calcium silicate fire protection boards, measure 255 x 255 x 95 mm and have a sheet steel outlet spigot DN 75. The letters L and R stand for a secondary connection on the left or right. The fan insert and, for AC fans, a control module are required separately. Housings without fire protection are the versions ERL UK-N, UKL, UKR and the ERL A surface-mounted housing.
Blauberg Valeo2: fire protection housing and fire protection device
For the Blauberg Valeo2 fans there are the fire protection flush-mounted housings BF, BFL and BFR made of fibre silicate. When installed as described in the operating instructions, they achieve fire resistance class K90 to DIN 18017-3 according to Blauberg. The versions BFK, BFLK and BFRK are supplied with the Valeo2 K fire damper fitted.
As a separate fire protection device there is the Valeo2 K for the BF, BFL and BFR housings, which according to the data sheet can also be retrofitted to an installed unit, and the Valeo2 BA for wall installation in ducts from 75 to 100 mm, for example as a fire barrier for the Valeo2 E2 surface-mounted housing. According to Blauberg, both are triggered by a fusible link at 72 °C; the shut-off element is a 6 mm fibre silicate board.
Notes on selection and installation
Before ordering, check which fire resistance class the wall or ceiling requires and whether a second room is to be ventilated via a secondary connection. Fire protection housings and devices must be installed exactly according to the operating instructions and approval for the stated class to apply. Planning and installation should therefore be carried out by a specialist company. Tips on extract air in internal bathrooms can be found in the guide ventilating a bathroom without a window, smoke extraction fans under smoke extract fans.
Frequently asked questions about fire protection housings and devices
What is a fire protection device for fans?
A fire protection device closes the ventilation duct automatically in the event of fire. With the Blauberg Valeo2 K and Valeo2 BA a fusible link melts at 72 °C and a fibre silicate board shuts off the duct.
What does K90 mean?
K90 denotes a shut-off device with a fire resistance duration of 90 minutes. The class only applies if the housing and device are installed as described in the operating instructions.
Can I retrofit a fire damper?
For the Blauberg fire protection flush-mounted housings BF, BFL and BFR there is the Valeo2 K fire damper, which according to the data sheet can also be retrofitted to an installed unit.
